At the beginning of the tournament, DTA had two wrestlers in the championship bracket. They were Kase Mauger at 94 lbs, and Jakob Murillo at 145 lbs. By the end of the day, both remained in the championship bracket.
Mauger's road began with a strong Illinois opponent, Guillermo Juarez. After exchanging takedowns, the score was tied 2-2. Kase then threw his opponent to his back and pinned him. The next match was against Evan Potter of Oregon. Kase would score several takedowns and turns to defeat potter 14-3 and advance to the quarterfinals. There he will face Christian Decatur-luker of North Carolina.
Murillo started the tournament with a dominating 10-0 technical fall over Joseph Jens of Illinois. Next he would face Cole Rees from Pennsylvania. After the first round, Jakob trailed 1-0. With an aggressive start to the second period, Murillo body locked his opponent, throwing him to the ground and pinning him. Tomorrow afternoon in the quarterfinals, he will face top-seeded Michael Weber of Montana.
