DTA entered two wrestlers in the Cadet Freestyle National Championships, Kase Mauger and Jakob Murillo. Both wrestlers represented DTA and the state of Idaho very well.
Kase Mauger was all business in the first day of his Fargo trip. He began with an opponent from Pennsylvania, Gabriel Gramly. Mauger quickly defeated his first foe by a score of 10-0 in just 47 seconds. His next opponent, Bishop Murray from Kansas, would face a similar fate. Kase beat him 10-0 in a mere 43 seconds. Tomorrow morning he will face Carter Young from Oklahoma in the quarterfinals.
Jakob Murillo also turned in a strong performance. He began his tournament with a high-scoring win over Enrique Munguia of Ohio 19-8. In his second match, he was trailing Collin Mccorkle of Arizona 4-2 late in the final round when Murillo scored a late takedown. This tied the score 4-4, giving Murillo the win on criteria.
Jakob continued to keep things exciting. He won his third match against Amado Castellon of Nevada with a late 4-point throw. The final score was 16-15. Murillo then suffered back to back losses. The first came to Drew Eller of Georgia 14-4. His second loss was to Nathan Paulson of California 6-2.
